What this practice does and does not do
- It reports your speed in both WPM and KDPH, so the number is directly comparable to the requirement above.
- It runs 2 minutes, not 10 — the longest test this site currently offers. Sustaining a speed for ten minutes is harder than for two, so treat this as a floor.
- It does not yet disable backspace, and it scores with our standard accuracy rather than the 7% exam rule. Treat the numbers as practice, not a prediction.
- Kruti Dev and Remington Gail layouts are not supported. This page covers QWERTY only, because that layout is built into your operating system.
Common questions
What speed does SSC CHSL English require?
35 words per minute, which the notification publishes as 10,500 key depressions per hour. A word is counted as five key depressions, so the two figures describe the same requirement.
How many mistakes are allowed?
Up to 7% of the characters you type. Clearing the speed bar with more errors than that is still a fail — both bars have to be met together.
Can I use backspace?
No. Editing keys are disabled, so a mistake stays on screen. This changes how you type far more than the speed target does, which is why practising with it on matters.
Which keyboard layout do I need?
QWERTY. It is provided by Windows and macOS, so you can add it in your system keyboard settings — no extra software is needed.
